The 15th of December marks Arakan State Day. A spokesperson from the RNDP’s branch office in Maungdaw said the holiday will be celebrated over two days with merry-making, sports, and entertainment, starting 14 December.

“The day will be celebrated here for two days and we have already formed an organizing committee with the members of our party and the USDP, and the town elders for holding the day. By celebrating the day together, we can make our celebration more enjoyable and the day itself is concerned with everyone living in our state," said the RNDP’s spokesperson.

He said the organizing committee for the day was formed on 25 November and U Oo Khin Maung, the director of cooperation, is assigned as the chairman of the committee and U Maung Ohn, the vice-president of the RNDP (Maungdaw), and U Tun Hla Sein, the secretary of the USDP (Maungdaw), as the assistant chairmen of the committee.

“We have planned to hold merry-makings and sports at day and stage-shows with popular Arakanese singers at night on both 14 and 15 of December at Myoma Sports Ground in Maungdaw. An estimated 50 lakh Kyat will be spent for the celebrations of the day and our committee has collected some funds from the well-wishers of the town, as well," he said.

He said that the committee will raise funds from the night shows by selling tickets and the funds will be saved for the celebration of the day in the coming year. According to the source, RNDP and USDP will work together especially for cultural, religious, and national affairs in the future as well.

Arakan was granted statehood, from being a division, by the 1974 constitution in Burma.
